Workshop for language pathologists at Hyderabad KIMS


Hyderabad: Practicing speech language pathologists from different parts of country took part in a two-day workshop on ‘Feeding and Swallowing Disorders in Neurological Conditions across the Lifespan’ organised by Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital, Secunderabad.

The workshop, which attracted participants from Bengaluru, Chennai, Kerala, Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad, was conducted by Speech Language Pathologist from United States, Marybeth Trapani-Hanasewych, who covered topics including anatomy and physiology of feeding and swallowing, diagnostic tests, and effects of medications.

The workshop also covered case studies and special focus was on discussing major grey areas in feeding and swallowing disorders.

Speech Language pathologist are rehabilitation professionals, who assess and intervene feeding and swallowing disorders, health conditions that can leave significant inability to eat, chew, swallow food and at high risk for the food to enter airway leading to lung infections.

The workshop was organided by department of Speech Language Pathology, Feeding and Swallowing Disorders (Speaking and Swallowing Disorders), KIMS Hospital, Secunderabad in association with Asian Transcare Rehabilitation Centre, Therapy India, Mumbai and Society for Feeding and Swallowing Disorders (SFSD).
