Nalgonda: The Nagarjuna Sagar project Superintendent Engineer Narasimha On Thursday released water to the left canal of the project.
Water was released to the left canal for first wetting for the irrigated dry crops in the ayacut as per the schedule. For the first wetting of the crops, 84,000 cusecs of water would be released from December 22 to January 2, 2017 for a period of 12 days. Under the left canal of the Nagarjuna Sagar project, there were 2.3 lakh acres of ayacut in zone-I that come under Nalgonda district while 1.2 lakh acres ayacut in zone-II come under Khammam district. With the release of water to the left canal, farmers can take up sowing in the ayacut in the two zones.
Presently, the water level in the Nagarjuna Sagar project was at 524 feet, i.e, a storage of 156.66 tmc of water in the project.
