Hyderabad: The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TSSPDCL) has urged its customers not to believe in fake news in social media that delayed meter reading was leading to higher charges. The Discom has made it clear that even if there was a delay in taking the meter reading by its staff, every machine used to take printouts is equipped with software that calculates the bill for a month only.
TSSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director G Raghuma Reddy in a statement here on Monday clarified that the State Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) ensures that exact and authentic bills were given to customers even though there was slight delay in collecting the meter reading from the residences of the customers.
“For instance if the meter reading was 106 units on the 32nd day then the calculation to adjust it for 30 days will be to take per day meter reading and calculate it for only 30 days (106/32 x 30 = 99 units). Under category 1A if the monthly consumption is less than 100 units then as per slab one, 53 (50/30 x 32) units will be charged at Rs 1.45 per unit and the remaining 53 (50/30 x 32) units at Rs 2.60 per unit,” he explained. He further added that the software that does this calculation was embedded in the machines that generate the monthly bill.
The TSSPDCL said that there are over 1.56 crore electricity consumers in the State and the Discoms made all arrangements to issue bills exactly for 30 days. “However few vested interests are posting fake information in social media. I request consumers not to believe the news and consult the nearest electricity office in case they have any doubts about the bill issued to them,” Raghuma Reddy said.
