Hyderabad: A week after the murder of a 66-year-old woman, G Sulochana, at her house in Jupiter Colony, the city police on Saturday arrested Niradi Arun, the caregiver of her paralytic husband.

Arun’s paramour M Saraswathi was also arrested for assisting him to commit the murder while his mother Rajamani was arrested as the stolen jewellery was found with her. The three are natives of Nizamabad district.

Speaking to mediapersons here, City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said Arun joined as a caretaker at Sulochana’s house on May 7 through an online home care recruiting agency. After finding gold ornaments, cash and other valuable items in the house, he hatched a plan to steal them after killing Sulochana.

Accordingly, Arun informed about his plan to Saraswathi and sought her help. As per their plan, Saraswathi came to the city by train on May 19. Arun received her at Secunderabad station and took her to Sulochana’s house where she stayed upstairs. Once Sulochana was asleep, Arun strangled her to death using a pillow while Saraswathi held the legs.

He then cut the throat of Sulochana with a knife that Saraswathi brought from the kitchen.

The duo took a gold necklace weighing about four tolas, gold earrings weighing about a tola, and silver anklets weighing 10 tolas from the body. They also took awat a gold coin along with Rs 20,000 in cash from the almirah apart from two mobile phones.

Based on a complaint lodged by Sulochana’s son G Phani Krishna, the police registered a case under Sections 302 (Murder) and 380 (Theft) of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Arun, along with Saraswathi and Rajamani, was arrested while disposing of the stolen property, the Police Commissioner said.
