Amravati: The ruling Telugu Desam Party is worried over the by-elections of the Nandyal Assembly Constituency and is making all efforts to win the seat. The TDP national party president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu directed the party leaders to prepare ground for unanimous election of the TDP candidate in Coordination Committee meeting held at his residence at Undavalli in Guntur on Monday. The Cabinet Ministers attended the coordination committee meeting to discuss on the party agenda. Altogether six Cabinet Ministers are engaged in the campaign.

According to sources, Chandrababu Naidu appointed four of his Cabinet colleagues including Kalava Srinisasulu, P Narayana, N Amarnatha Reddy and Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy for the election campaign. Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya and deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy, representing from Kurnool district were also engaged in this by elections. The TDP coordinate committee meeting mainly focused on the Nandyal by-elections.

“The TDP respected the by-elections tradition. When a sitting MLA passed away, TDP didn’t field any candidate against Y S Vijayamma, when the sitting MLA and her husband Y S Rajasekhar Reddy passed away. In the case of Allagadda by-elections also, when the then YSRC leader Bhuma Sobhanagi Reddy died in a road accident the TDP did not contest. Now, the YSRCP also should respect the same tradition and should not field their candidate in the Nandyal by-elections”, Naidu opined, according to sources. Chandrababu Naidu suggested the party leaders to spread the same massage in the by-elections if the YSRCP contests, added the sources. At the same time, he instructed cadre to intensify campaign for winning Nandyal seat with a thumping majority, in case of elections are inevitable.

By-elections are being held to this Constituency following MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy’s demise. He was elected on the YSRCP ticket in the 2014 general elections and eventually shifted his loyalty to TDP along with his daughter Akhila Priya. But he did not resign to YSRCP primary membership. Meanwhile, the YSRCP is also claiming that Nagi Reddy belongs to their party, since he did not resign for the party. The YSRC president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that they would field their candidate in the by-elections and TDP should respect the tradition and should contest.

On the other hand, Chandrababu Naidu expressed displeasure over the functioning of Ch Ayyannapatrudu, Roads and Buildings Minister, over the Visakhapatnam land scam. The party leaders also decided to take an initiative on the name of “Intintiki Telugu Desam” (TDP to door to door), in order to campaign the government policies. This programme would be started from September 1 to October 30 this year.
