Hyderabad: German audio giant Sennheiser is looking to set up an R&D as well as manufacturing unit in India and has informed that Telangana is on the radar. The company, which is into production and selling of headphones, microphones and wireless transmitters, is betting big on the India and surrounding market. It already has four major production units with the largest in Germany followed by the United States, Ireland and the recently opened plant in Romania.
Without disclosing timeline on when the plant in India might come up, Vipin Pungalia, director, professional segment, Sennheiser Electronics India said, “Last year, when one of our directors from Germany visited India, he evinced interest in setting up a production as well as R&D unit in the country. We had also got a request from the Telangana government to set up either of our units here. And now the company is evaluating different issues to zero in on setting up these units. And if that decision comes through in the near future, then Telangana and particularly Hyderabad will definitely be one of our first choices.”
India is among the top 5 market for Sennheiser among the 50 countries that it operates in. And going it plans to launch specific products and technologies targeted towards the Indian consumers. The growing professional segment contributes more than 45 per cent of Sennheiser India business.
The company in an event held in Hyderabad showcased the top-end latest technological launches that it has done in the last one year with major focus on professional segment which could include music companies, production houses, and media and entertainment channels among others. Hyderabad is one of the top five markets with 25 per cent year-on-year growth for Sennheiser India.
