Hyderabad: Health Minister, E Rajender on Saturday said that Telangana is ahead of many other States in implementing tobacco control initiatives.
In a message on the eve of World No Tobacco Day observed on May 31, the Minister said Telangana is strictly enforcing the COTPA Act to curb smoking in public places and near educational institutions.
“Telangana is firm in controlling the sale of ganja, gutkha and other narcotics. Government makes Acts/Law to safeguard the health of the public. But public also must take care of themselves by staying away from bad habits,” he said.
The Health Minister said that future and quality of life in any nation depends on the health of younger generation and hence, they must not get addicted to tobacco usage.
On this occasion, Bhavna B Mukhopadhyay, Chief Executive Voluntary Health Association of India said that Telangana government has demonstrated commitment towards safeguarding the health of people and protecting the masses, especially the youth from the growing menace of tobacco addiction.
