Techie from Telangana dies in New York, family seeks help

Hyderabad: The family of Sridhar Panuganti, an employee of Tech Mahindra (Americas) Inc, who died in his sleep on November 27 in Buffalo, New York, are seeking help from Indian authorities to get his body back.

In an appeal posted on crowd-funding site, Sridhar’s wife Jhansi Rani Aluvala said Sridhar, a native of Thorrur, Warangal Rural, passed away on November 27 in his sleep, leaving her and their 5-year-old son alone.

“We are struck in India due to the pandemic and my husband was alone in the US when the tragedy happened. What has happened is beyond comprehension and we are all still in shock. This has created a huge impact to us as my husband was the only breadwinner of our family,” she said, asking for help and adding that repatriation services arrangements and funeral plans were still being made.

In a series of tweets, Jhansi posted on Twitter, tagging various Indian ministers, government officials and Embassies, saying that Sridhar’s body was now kept at the Erie County Department of Health Office in Buffalo. Relatives who joined Jhansi tweeting for help said the authorities were yet to release the body since investigations into the cause of death were still on and could take time.

Warangal MP Pasunoori Dayakar, in a letter to the Indian Embassy in New York also requested help to shift the body to India for the last rites .

In a reply to a tweet from Sridhar’s sister Sreelatha Panuganti, the Consulate General of India in New York replied that the CGI was doing its best.
