Her return to Tamil Nadu is being keenly watched as it comes at a time when the assembly elections in the state are likely to be held in the next few months.
Sasikala was in prison since February 2017 along with Ilavarasi and late Jayalalithaa's foster son V N Sudhakaran in connection with the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case.
According to the hospital sources, as soon as she was admitted to hospital, authorities conducted a Rapid Antigen Test on her, which has come back negative for Covid-19.
She will have to pay Rs 10 crore to walk out of prison on January 27, 2021, else spend another 13 months behind bars.
"Sasikala has applied for parole for 15 days and it is under consideration," the sources told PTI.
Election commission has given AIADMK rival factions time till September 29 to file fresh submissions.

In the four-page report after visiting the central prison on July 10, Roopa said a special kitchen was functioning in the jail for Sasikala in violation of prison rules.
The case relates to alleged violations in transactions including remittances for a transponder and uplinking charges for the erstwhile JJ TV channel.
Sasikala has now sought the details of questions that are going to be put against her to frame charges, to enable her to answer them through video conference.
