A cold wave swept the national capital on Sunday morning, with the minimum temperature dipping to 3.1 degrees Celsius.
For the plains, the IMD declares a cold wave when the minimum temperature is 10 degrees Celsius or below and is 4.5 notches less than normal for two consecutive days.
According to the weather department, 7.4 degrees Celsius is Delhi's lowest minimum temperature in the month of November in at least 14 years.
While there was shallow to moderate fog in most parts of the city, a few places saw dense fog causing visibility issues.
The weatherman has forecast dense fog with ground frost with moderate fog at some places for the next two days in western UP.
In Haryana, Narnaul was the coldest place recording a low of 2.3 degrees Celsius.
"Leh was the coldest town in the state at a minus 13.8 followed by Kargil at minus 11.2 degrees Celsius," the official said.
This period is known as the "Chillai Kalan" and heavy snowfall in the hills during this period replenishes the water reservoirs of the valley.
"After recording the season's lowest maximum temperature at 2.1 degrees Celsius here on Saturday, the minimum temperature was minus 2.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday," the official said.
