State’s Apurva bags a double

Hyderabad: Telangana State’s Vemuri Apurva bagged a double in the Vasishta Open AITA Championship Series tennis tournament for boys and girls under-12, organized by Vasishta Tennis Academy, concluded at Carnival Club, Sainikpuri on Thursday.

Apurva had to rally before beating sixth seed Ronde Saumya, also of TS, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. In the girls’ doubles final, the Vemuri twins, Apurva and Abhaya defeated Ernampati Sai Dhiti and G Shivanni 6-3, 6-3 to bag the title.

However, Kanugovi Sree Sharan of TS failed to repeat Apurva’s feat as the top seed lost the singles title to Gunnidhi Bhima of Andhra Pradesh 5-7, 2-6 to capture the boy’s singles crown. Sharan and Sai Charan Reddy took the honours in the boys doubles section when they beat Kancharla Aneesh Reddy and Pagadala Rohan in three sets.
