Sangareddy: District Principal and Sessions Judge, Justice K Sai Rama Devi, said it pained her to see so many parents being ignored by their children at the fag end of their lives.
She was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a free health camp organised by the District Legal Services Authority on the premises of Government General Hospital, here on Monday.
Justice Devi said an elderly man Lakshman had approached them seeking justice as his children were not taking care of him and his wife. Officials gave a wheelerchair to the man and counselled his children, the District Judge said and added that differently-abled and people suffering from psychological issues were also not getting proper attention in many cases.
To reach out to such people, the free health camp was organised in Sangareddy, following the directions of Supreme Court and High Court, she said. Stating gynaecology services would also be provided to women who come to the camp, Just Devi said free medicines would also be distributed.
Collector Sangareddy M Hanumantha Rao called on the public to engage in social work for the elderly people and differently-abled. He cited various examples of how senior citizens were serving people even after their retirement.
Justice Rama Devi and Collector Rao distributed wheelchairs, woollen blankets, clothes, hearing aids, and walking sticks for the elderly. They were bought with the support of Dr Sabitha, Abdul Rabi, Maharaj and others.
Additional District and Sessions Judge, Justice B Papi Reddy, Bar Association president Vishnuvardhan Reddy, District Co-ordinator of Hospitals Dr Sangareddy and others were present.
