Saddula Bathukamma, the cultural spirit of Telangana

Hyderabad: Rivers, lakes and tanks across the State turned into flowerbeds on Wednesday as women observed ‘Saddula Bathukamma’ as part of the nine-day State festival.

The cultural spirit of Telangana was in full bloom, as women celebrated the day with devotion, immersing the floral arrangements in water bodies, amidst songs. ‘Naivedyam’, including five types of rice dishes, was offered while dance performances and a variety of programmes were organised across the State to mark the day.

Wednesday also saw temples being decked up for Dasara on Thursday, with all preparations in full swing to celebrate the victory of good over evil. The day will mark the celebration of Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana, apart from being celebrated as the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura, with the latter being observed more by the Bengali community here.

Local festival committees have drawn up various programmes for the day — the blessing of household and work tools, books, vehicles and other articles.
