Retired Navy officer attacked in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Three unidentified persons attacked a retired Navy captain in the parking lot of his apartment at Humayun Nagar late on Wednesday.

The victim, Ikramuddin Kaleem, 56, who retired about 20 years ago, was staying with his family at Elegance Apartments.

According to the police, three persons armed with knives and swords attacked Kaleem when he had just returned from the Numaish at the Exhibition Grounds and was parking his car around 10:45 pm.

“They waited for him and attacked him suddenly with weapons. He was alone at the time of the attack. We suspect a property dispute could have led to the attack. However, we are probing all angles,” the police said.

Kaleem, who is said to have retired from Saudi Arabia’s Naval Force, was shifted to a private hospital in Banjara Hills and was being treated.

The Humayun Nagar police booked a case and were examining CCTV footage from the parking area.

Two special teams were deployed by the West Zone police to arrest the suspects. His family was being questioned.
