Karimnagar: Finance and Civil Supplies Minister Etela Rajender said that the State government’s decision to provide Rs 1,000 pension would provide respite to single women.
The Minister launched Single Women Pension Scheme at Collectorate auditorium here on Sunday. Rajender said the government was providing pension to aged people, widows, physically challenged, toddy tappers, weavers and beedi workers.
Rural women used to request public representatives for pension on par with other Aasara pensioners. “As they brought the same to the notice of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, he agreed to give pension to single women from April,” Etela said.
Previous governments used to allocate only Rs 800 crore for pensions, but the Telangana government was allocating Rs 5,600 crore for the same. He said that top priority would be given to single women in job recruitment.
Informing that the government was taking all possible measures to take the State forward on all fronts, the Minister sought the blessings of the public. Karimnagar Mayor S Ravinder Singh, local MLA Gangula Kamalakar, MLC Naradasu Laxman Rao, Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed and others took part in the programme.
