Overexpectation is my biggest enemy: Akhil Akkineni
Akhil Akkineni

Akhil Akkineni who made his debut with a sci-fic movie titled Akhil and who was last seen in Hello, is back on screen with Venky Atluri’s upcoming romantic drama Mr. Majnu. The actor, who is playing the role of a playboy who is afraid of commitment, says, “The role I’m playing in Mr. Majnu is completely different from what I previously did. As an actor, it was challenging for me.

From day one, I remember overexpectation and pressure have been my worst enemies. Honestly, it is my biggest fear and enemy. I think that’s the reason why a lot of things haven’t worked for me. I tried to be something that I’m not. Finally, I’m in a state in life where I’m not trying to meet those expectations and do what I can do.”

Akhil feels that there is nothing wrong to start off step by step. He says, “Change happens over experience, and the last two films gave me a lot of experience. After the first film, it took me a lot of time to come out of the negativity.

It was a complete washout disaster for me, and to come out of a such a failure itself is difficult for anyone, more so for an actor. It took me a lot of time to take up Hello, and from there, I started gaining back audiences’ trust.”

After the two films, there were a lot of improvements seen in the actor and a few of them are mannerisms. “Venky and I decided to change my overall persona, and it took time to change the Akhil whom you guys have seen in the last three years. He made me do all that where mannerisms change characters on-screen.”

The actor who previously said in an interview that he would like to work on movies such as Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, says, “This is Venky’s version of such kind of movies. May be not structurally same, but it belongs to the same genre. In fact, the movie was inspired from Prem Nagar and the dialogue ‘Excuse me Mr’ is from there.”

Mr. Majnu is a modern, young and energetic love story where Vikky loves to be around girls. It’s a modern version of Majnu without the tragic feel. It carries all the family emotions and solely based on performance. Vikky’s life revolves around his dates, flings and girls until he meets the right one, Nikki (Nidhhi Aggerwal).

The movie Mr. Majnu also stars Jayaprakash, Pavitra Lokesh, Sithara, Vidyullekha Raman, and is all set to release on January 25.
