“To have both my debut films – Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya and Chhichhore – to release in two different industries and become super hits in the same year is a dream come true for me,” starts off Naveen Polishetty, excitedly. “I dreamt of being an actor since I was in the fourth grade. A lot of actors say they wanted to be an engineer or doctor and then acting just happened to them, but that’s not the case with me,” the actor adds.
Naveen co-wrote his Telugu debut film, Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya, along with his director Swaroop RSJ. “We wanted to make something new and exciting for the Telugu audience – a humorous detective thriller. We weren’t sure how the audience would receive it here. When we got a standing ovation after our premier show, we were happy those two years of our life weren’t wasted making the movie,” shares Naveen.
Naveen was a theatre actor; he hosted events and was also famous for his YouTube videos by AIB. His family are all IITians and he was forced to do engineering. But, Naveen used his spare time in college to learn acting. He became everyone’s favourite after playing ‘Acid’ in his Hindi debut Chhichhore. He was shooting for both his debut movies parallelly. “People still call me ‘Acid’ when I’m in north and ‘Agent’ when I’m in south. I sometimes forget my name,” smiles Naveen.
Naveen has been making funny videos and posting on Instagram and Twitter while in quarantine. “Everyone needs to stay home and I want to entertain them while they do that. Whether it is two hours in the cinema hall or two minutes on Instagram, all I ever want to do is make people laugh,” he says.
His next Telugu movie Jathi Ratnalu is also a comedy. Naveen concludes by saying that he’s a greedy actor and will take up any quirky and exciting script regardless of the industry.
