Visakhapatnam: Renowned orthopaedician in the city and Director General of Prema Hospitals Dr. S.V. Adinarayana Rao has promised to provide two acres of land to Sneha Sandhya Age Care Foundation (ACF) for establishing a hospice, dementia care centre and allied facilities.
Speaking at the inaugural function of `Palliative Home Care Services’ of the ACF at Pradhama Hospital here on Wednesday evening, he said he had already given some land to social welfare organisations at Gambheeram in the city and would be glad to continue to do so for the society.
Dr. Gayatri Palat, Director PAX, said she was glad to hear that efforts were on for bringing in a paliative care policy by the Andhra Pradesh Government which was badly needed. Such initiative was already taken in the Telanagana State where district-level centres were coming up, she disclosed.
Former Director of Medical Education, noted gynaecologist and chairperson of Pradhama Hospital Dr. R. Sasiprabha said there was every need to provide palliative care to mitigate the suffering of the patients and said she would be glad to associate herself with the ACF in its medical services programmes.
Managing Trustee of ACF Dr. NS Raju lamented that there is no centre to provide palliative care training to doctors and nurses in the state. ACF with the help of organisations like Pallium India was conducting such training to doctors and nurses .
He introduced the ACF medical services and volunteers’ team to the audience. Dr. N. Somaraju, Dr. Vidya Viswanath, Dr Usharani, Satyasree and Meenakshi Anantaram spoke. Pradhama Hospital MD Dr. Visweswara Rao was present.
