Nominations swell on the final day in erstwhile Adilabad


Adilabad: The gram panchayats going to polls in the first phase in erstwhile Adilabad district witnessed a big rush of nominations for the posts of sarpanches and ward members on Wednesday. The process was slower than expected on the first and second day. A considerable number of rural civic bodies are likely to have Sarpanchs unanimously.

A total of 423 nominations were received on Wednesday and the cumulative total reached 595 nominations for 153 Gram Panchayats of Adilabad. As many 528 papers were submitted on the last day in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district when compared to 113 rural civic bodies to which elections would be held on January 21 under phase I.

In Nirmal, 453 nominations were filed on the final day and the cumulative total of nomination was 728. A sum of 134 gram panchayat was undergoing polls in under phase I. A whopping 1,369 nominations were received for 1,058 wards in this district. As a result, the total number of nominations accounted for was 1,937.

It is learned that Sarpanchs of 44 gram Panchayats belonging to Adilabad are likely to be elected unanimously with only a candidate filing nominations. Similarly, these posts of scores of rural civic bodies from Nirmal and Kumram Bheem Asifabad and Mancherial have been chosen on the similar method following assurance of grant of somewhere between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50 lakh by local legislators.
