Nizamabad: Nizamabad Government General Hospital (GGH) doctors successfully performed a total knee replacement surgery. This type of surgery has been performed in Telangana only in Osmania and Gandhi hospitals.
Nizamabad GGH Orthopaedic Department head Dr Thimma Reddy and his team members performed the surgery on a 60-year-old patient Pentanna, a native of Annaram village in Nandipet mandal. Pentanna who had been suffering from knee pain from last 10 years had consulted several doctors and obtained treatment, but nothing worked out.
Finally, he approached Nizamabad Government General Hospital doctors for treatment. The GGH Orthopaedic Department doctors diagnosed that Pentanna was facing problems as his knee ligaments were damaged and hence, required knee replacement surgery.
According to diagnosis report, Dr Thimmareddy and his team members Dr Bansilal Chauhan, Dr Raghavendra, Dr Vivek, Anaesthesia team members Dr Kiran and Dr Preetham on Friday conducted knee replacement surgery to Pentanna successfully. After completion of the surgery, the patient was able to walk with the help of a stick. Helping Hand, a voluntary organization, provided Rs 75,000 worth knee implants to the patient.
Dr Thimmareddy said that their team had performed complete knee replacement surgery first time at GGH, Nizamabad, after Osmania and Gandhi hospitals in the State. Nearly Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh would be charged for this surgery at corporate hospitals, but they performed the surgery free of cost, he added.
Dr Ramulu, Superintendent, GGH, said that Dr Thimmareddy and his team had performed many rare surgeries, like total hip replacement surgery, anterior circuit ligament surgery and others.
Pentanna said that the doctors had solved his knee problem, and express gratitude to the hospital doctors.
