Nalgonda: The results of the second phase of random sampling tests of COVID-19 conducted by Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) in Nalgonda district would be revealed in 10 to 15 days, which would give a clear picture on community spread of the virus.
Nalgonda was among 89 districts in the country selected for random sampling tests by ICMR. As part of the second phase of random sampling tests, five teams of ICMR visited the district on August 26 and 27 and collected samples from 450 persons in 10 villages in the district. The samples were taken from 12 families from each village. In the first phase also, ICMR has also conducted random tests in these test villages in the district.
Speaking to media, District Medical and Health Officer Dr Kondal Rao said that as a part of first phase of random sampling tests in June, the ICMR teams had collected samples from 400 persons in these 10 villages. Out of them, 399 samples turned negative for COVID-19 and one sample of a person hailing from Dindi turned positive. Results of second phase of random sampling tests would be known in 10 to 15 days as they have been taken to Chennai lab by the ICMR teams, he added.
Stating that rapid antigen tests were being conducting by medical staff extensively, he said that the it was targeted to conduct 2,350 rapid antigen tests daily, but more than 3,000 tests were being conducted in the district. Rapid antigen tests were conducting in District Government Hospital at Nalgonda, Area Hospitals at Devarakonda, Miryalaguda, Nagarjuna Sagar and Nakrekal, and 32 Primary Health Centres in the district.
“In all, 912 special teams were formed for 824 villages in the district for conduct of door to door survey. The doctors were also talking with the Covid patients, who were getting treatment with home isolation, and extended necessary medical suggestions to them,” he added.
