Nalgonda: The district police have issued a fresh warning that it would not tolerate drunk driving and strict action would be taken on any person who drives a vehicle in a drunk condition. Calling drunk driving a serious crime, Superintendent of Police AV Ranganath on Wednesday cautioned that anyone caught driving drunk, would be sent behind the bars.
Ranganath, in a media release, said drunk driving was the cause behind majority of accidents and the police aimed to put an end to this through effective enforcement of traffic rules. In addition to creating awareness on the rules, caution boards have been set-up at select points across the district. Corrective measures have been taken up at the identified accidents-prone areas to avoid road mishaps. Speed Guns were being used to identify over speeding vehicles on the National Highway and others roads that would help in averting accidents, he said.
Reminding that e-challan system was introduced in the district, he said that the police was imposing penalties on vehicles that violate the traffic rules through the new system. Those who have more than three challans pending, will have their vehicles seized which can be released from the police after paying the total pending chalan amount at e-seva or Mee Seva, he added.
Stating that police would act more strictly on drunk driving, he appealed the people to cooperate with the police in traffic rules enforcement.
