Musi project water to be released from Dec 18

Nalgonda: Farmers in the ayacut of Musi project have good news, as water from the Musi project is all set to be released for the ayacut from December 18 on the basis of an on and off method that would irrigate 30,000 acres of ayacut under the left and right canals.

The five-decade old Musi project is the second biggest irrigation project in Nalgonda after Nagarjuna Sagar. After the formation of Telangana State, the State government replaced 12 gates of the project with new ones at a cost of Rs 18.5 crore to cap the leakages. Due to the heavy rains this year, the Musi project is brimming with the water level at 644.5 foot against a full level of 645 foot.

Speaking to Telangana Today, N Ramesh, Assistant Engineer of the project, said that water would be released to the left and right canals in four phases. In the first phase, water would be released for 25 days, that is, from December 18 to January 11, 2018, while in the second phase, water would be released for 15 days, that is, from January 22 to February 5.

In the third phase, water would be released for 15 days from February 16 to March 2 and in the fourth phase, it would be released from March 13 and continue till the water is available in the project. Farmers would take up the Irrigated Dry (ID) crop in the ayacut and those farmers whose lands are near to the project would only take up paddy cultivation.
