Nalgonda: Minister for Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Wednesday announced that each and every village and hamlet in Nalgonda district would be supplied with safer drinking water under Mission Bhagiratha by July 30 this year.
Dayakar Rao and Energy Minister G Jagdish Reddy, CMO Secretary Smita Sabarwal and Engineer-in-Chief Krupakar Reddy, reviewed the status of works of Mission Bhagiratha at a meeting held with the engineers and representatives of the contracting company in Udhy Aditya Bhavan on the premises of the district Collectorate at Nalgonda. During the four hour review meeting, he inquired with the engineers about the drinking water supply and status of works of Mission Bhagiratha.
Dayakar Rao said that 95 per cent of Mission Bhagiratha works were completed in Nalgonda district and the remaining works would be completed within two months. Subsequently, each and every house in all villages and hamlet of Nalgonda district would be supplied with safe drinking water by July 30. He regretted that five per cent of the works were still pending due to the negligence of contacting agencies. He instructed the officials to issue notices to such contacting agencies and appoint others in their place if required.
Stating that the idea of the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to take up Mission Bhagiratha actually had roots in Nalgonda district, which was faced with fluoride issue, he said though supplying river water to each house through water taps was not an easy task, the State government successfully implemented it through Mission Bhagirtha, which was taken up at a cost of Rs 40,123 crore.
He pointed out that the erstwhile governments had spent Rs 590 crore for drinking water schemes in erstwhile Nalgonda district in the seven decades in united Andhra Pradesh, but TRS government spent Rs 2,950 crore on Mission Bhagiratha in just the last four years.
Jagdish Reddy asked the sarpanches of the villages not to sign on the papers confirming completion of Mission Bhagiratha works, if they were not completed 100 percent. He informed that safe drinking water being supplying to 1689 habitations including 843 grama panchayats, 1670 hamlets and 19 municipalities in Nalgonda district.
The engineers informed the meeting that out of total sanctioned 1536 Overhead Service Reservoirs (OHSRs), worked of 1509 OHSRs were completed and works of remaining 27 OHSRs were under progress. Water taps were fixed to 3,15,083 houses as against sanctioned 3,30, 939 houses in Nalgonda district.
Zilla Parishad Chairman Banda Narender Reddy, MLAs Kancharla Bhupal Reddy, N Bhasker Rao, Nomula Narsimhaiah and Chirumarthi Lingaiah were also attended the review meeting.
