Sangareddy: Medak MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy urged the Union Defence Ministry to initiate action against the illegal occupants of Cantonment lands in Secunderabad. He also asked it to allot land to construct skyways and expressways over the Cantonment area for the benefit of the citizens.

Raising the issue in Lok Sabha on Wednesday, the MP said some people’s occupation of the valuable Cantonment lands remained unnoticed for over 30-40 years. He further said the encroachers constructed luxurious function halls, educational institutions, dhabas, big godowns, automobile showrooms and many other commercial establishments in the defence department lands. “The government is not getting a single rupee from any one occupant,” the MP told the House.

Demanding that the government set up an inquiry committee to remove the encroachments immediately, Reddy also urged the Ministry to consider the Telangana government’s request to construct skyways and expressways over Cantonment lands for the convenience of the general public.

Later, the Medak MP along with TRS Parliamentary Chairman K Keshava Rao met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to raise some issues pertaining to Telangana.
