Mancherial: Birthdays always mean colorful celebrations with reunion of family members, friends and lavish parties. However, a Mancherial-based spiritual leader, yoga instructor and veteran homeopathy practitioner, Dr Gurrala Krishna Reddy, is celebrating his birthday for a novel cause.
Disciples of Krishna Reddy and members of Sri Bhagavad Gita Adyayana Mandali (SBAM), a religious organisation in the town, are using the occasion to raise funds for the construction of a spacious multi-storied building to propagate the teachings of Bhagavad Gita apart from teaching yoga with an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore. They are on their way to achieving the target amount as nearly 70 per cent of funds have already been raised.
“During Krishna Reddy’s 81st birthday celebrations last year, we could raise Rs 56 lakh with the help of donors and philanthropists from various parts of Mancherial and Hyderabad. Apart from that, we received donations amounting to Rs 11 lakh over the last one year. We are hopeful that will be able reach our target soon,” said Madamshetti Satyanarayna, chairman of the committee supervising the construction of the new building.
One of the pioneers of learning, practicing and teaching the ancient system of holistic health in Mancherial, Krishna Reddy follows a simple life and never showed interest in celebrating his birthday until recently. He, however, agreed to utilise the occasion for charity. To his delight, many including compounders who work in his clinic are voluntarily contributing for the construction of the building.
Around 200 disciples gathered on the premises of the under-construction building of the organisation and took part in the 82nd birthday of Krishna Reddy celebrations in Mancherial on Sunday. During the programme, those who donated generously were felicitated by Krishna Reddy and members of the organisation for extending their support for the cause.
