Mancherial: Mancherial town came alive with denizens celebrating the third International Yoga Day in a grand style and with pomp. Students and practitioners of the ancient form of exercise presented yogic postures and cultural programmes to mark the occasion. People from all walks of life participated in the events conducted in connection with the occasion.
Hundreds of students belonging to various schools and followers of yoga turned up at a mass yoga programme held at Padmanayaka Function Hall at College Road of the town. The event was jointly organised by Patanjali Yoga Samithi and Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Mancherial unit.
A large number of audiences attended the programme. Sri Chit Kanthananda Swamy of Ramakrishna Math of Hyderabad and Dronacharya awardee Nagapuri Ramesh were the chief guests.
Yoga trainers and students of Swamy Vivekanananda Yoga Trust of the town danced to a song. Students of Zilla Parishad High School at Mudigunta in Jaipur mandal presented yoga postures combining with dance. They also danced to Telugu and Hindi songs. Disciples of Manda Srinivas, a yoga teacher of the town, also displayed several yogic postures that enthralled audiences.
Kanthananda Swamy addressed the gathering and urged people to follow yoga to stay mentally and physically fit. He explained the benefits of yoga and stated that Hindu religion was the epitome of rich culture and tradition.
He then added that India is home to scientific practices. He sought religious organisations to protect and promote it through different programmes. He gave away certificates of appreciation to students and ardent practitioners and appreciated the organisers for making all arrangements to make the event successful.
Upon being impressed with performances, former police Inspector J Narayana and another businessman gifted Rs 1,000 each to the pupils of ZPHS Mudigunta. The organisers made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the event by providing drinking water and snacks to the participants too.
Addicherla Sagar, district president of Bharath Swabhiman Trust, Gone Shyamsundar Rao, chairman of Mancherial chamber of commerce, Goshika Mallesh and Karne members of Swamy Vivekanand Yoga Trust, Damera Rajaiah, district president Akhila Bharata Yoga Parishad and general secretary Pusala Venkatesh and Nagamani, yoga instructor were present.
