Hyderabad: Witnessed by an unprecedented crowd and attracting nationwide recognition apart from global participation, the three-day Telangana International Kite Festival at Parade Grounds here wound up on Tuesday, adding yet another feather to the Brand Hyderabad crown.
For three days coinciding with Sankranti festivities, the festival, which apart from kites, also lined up a lipsmacking menu of sweets from across the country with a dash of international flavour, had crowds flocking in large numbers, surpassing the estimates of the host, Telangana Tourism.
On Tuesday, the last day of festival, the venue was so packed with many more waiting outside that the organisers put the count to around 5 lakh and the three day cumulative figure of visitors crossing the one million mark and touching 1.20 million!
The festival saw participation from 19 countries with 42 international professional kite flyers from Sweden, Poland, New Zealand, France and the United States among others, exhibiting their skills along with over 60 national kite flyers.

Q. How was the response to the festival?
Ans. We expected around 10 lakh visitors during the three-day festival with an average of 3 lakh per day. However, beyond our expectations, over 12 lakh visitors participated in the festival. What started with 25,000 visitors, the Telangana International Kite Festival is now turning out to be one of the biggest events in the city year after year.
Q. Any plans to expand the scope?
A: To provide an opportunity to amateur kite flyers and children, we intend to make more space available at Parade Grounds, the venue for the festival. By ensuring more space at Parade Grounds for the kite festival, we will explore the possibilities of expanding and including Bison Polo Grounds and Gymkhana Ground for hosting the sweet festival and also offer traditional food items.
Q. How was the response from visitors?
A: The festival received an overwhelming response from all quarters of the society and everyone enjoyed the fun and fiesta. All age groups from children to the senior citizens gathered, spent time with the kites and also relished delicious sweets.

A: During the three-day festival, there were thousands of searches in Google, YouTube, webpages regarding the kite festival and it was widely shared in Facebook and WhatsApp and turned to be one of the most talked about event in recent times.
