Khammam: Deputy Jailor N Prabhakar Reddy, who is on deputation to Madhira sub-jail, was suspended in the wake of an FIR filed against him at Madhira police station for allegedly violating lockdown rules.
Warangal range DIG of Prisons Y Rajesh issued orders in this regard. He said the action was taken based on the FIR and a departmental report. The accused officer exhibited misconduct, indiscipline and violated Rule 3 of Telangana Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964.
It may be noted the Deputy Jailor along with EORD Raja Rao, Government doctor Srinivas, and tahsildar Saidulu had a liquor the party at Madhira revenue guest house on Monday night. An FIR was filed against them after the local mediaperons brought the incident to light.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Jailor lodged a complaint against eight news reporters and others at Madhira police station accusing them of forcefully entering their guest house room, trying to assault and restraining the officers and failing to maintain social distance.
Based on the complaint, police booked an FIR against B Lakshman, Ch Srinivas Reddy, D Rajesh, Vinod, N Nagaraju, M Murali, Vinod and Bala Swamy, all reporters, and others under sections of IPC 147, 452, 352, 323, 188, 269, 341, 342 r/w 149 IPC section 3 of Epidemic Act, Section 51 of clause (b) of Disaster Management Act, SI V Uday Kumar informed.
Journalist unions demand withdrawal of cases
On Thursday, the leaders of a journalist union approached Wyra ACP Satyanarayana and opposed the filing of cases against the reporters. They wanted to file cases against the officers under SC/ST Atrocity Act as they passed casteist slurs at the reporters.
The leaders of another journalists union submitted a representation to Transport Minister P Ajay Kumar seeking justice for the journalists saying that they performed their duty and uncovered alleged violations of lockdown rules by the officials in question.
