Indrakaran Reddy urges public to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi eco-friendly

Nirmal: Minister for Forest, Environment, Endowments and Housing Allola Indrakaran Reddy urged the public to worship clay idols of Lord Ganesh in place of the idols made of Plaster of Paris (PoP) during the nine-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival commencing from August 22 and to protect the environment. He distributed the eco-friendly idols to devotees at his camp office in Nirmal on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Indrakaran informed that one lakh clay idols were being distributed to devotees by Telangana State Pollution Control Board every year as part of protection of the environment. He sought the devotees to go for the eco-friendly idols to celebrate the festival, stressing that the conservation of water bodies was the need of the hour.

The Minister, who conveyed his wishes to public on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, hoped that the people would be freed from the deadly novel Coronavirus soon. He wanted them to give paramount importance to protect nature while celebrating religious festivals. He added that polluting the water bodies would result in climate change which is a threat to the existence of humans in the future.

Authorities of TSPCB were also present at the programme.
