Hyderabad: A final-year dual degree Masters student from International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-Hyderabad) Sreeja Kamishetty has become the only Indian to have participated in EMEA Google Students Retreat 2018 programme held recently in London.
The 20-year-old had applied for an internship at Google last year. While the youngster did not make it as a Google intern, her application was selected for Get-Ahead programme for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa regions), an initiative aimed at women in tech who are invited to workshops and other events organised by Google.
A coding competition was held for all Go-Ahead participants in which top 20 students, including Kamishetty, were selected for EMEA Google Students Retreat in London.
The three-day EMEA programme, held between August 7 and 9, is a platform for women in tech to strengthen skills, network with other attendees and engineers and learn about Google products and culture.
“The Google retreat featured networking sessions with scholars, talks on Google culture, technical sessions on coding, panel discussions on success stories and failures and talk about opportunities at Google,” said Kamishetty.
The student termed the retreat as a learning experience which not only boosted her confidence but also helped in her current preparation for job interviews. The final year Dual Degree student from IIIT-Hyderabad is pursuing her Masters in the Machine Learning Lab under professor Praveen Paruchuri.
