Hyderabad: A betting racket being organised from United States by a Hyderabad man was busted by the city police on Wednesday with the arrest of six persons. The police seized Rs 8 lakh cash, a car and six mobile phones from them.
Acting on a tip off, a team led Commissioner’s Task Force (south) by Inspector Madhu Mohan Reddy raided a house at Ramgopalpet and caught the suspects identified as Zaynil Rupani, Nazim Gilani, Mohit Jain, Nikhar Maheswari, Rahul Jain and Vaibhav Salvi. Four others Barkat Lalani, Danish Salim, Sohail and Sahil are absconding.
“The kingpin, Barkat to avoid arrest and other legal procedure, reportedly went to USA before the start of IPL season of 2019 and has been carrying out cricket betting through his friends in Hyderabad. His associates Danish, Sohail, Sahil and Nazim shifted their based to Goa to avoid getting caught here. For carrying out betting operations, he is using a mobile app namely Matchbox9.com,” said Additional DCP Task Force S Chaitanya Kumar.
The gang collected money through known punters in advance and gave them the link for the Matchbox9.com so as to enable them to participate in the betting. The local agents Mohit Jain, Nikhar, Rahul and Vaibhav were agents operating in the Secunderabad and were paid a commission of three per cent for collecting the money and handing it over to Dansih, Sohail and Sahil through Zaynil and Nazim.
On a tip off the police caught the suspects and handed them over to Ramgopalpet police along with the property.
