Hyderabad: Man held for hacking emails of resort

Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Cyber Cell police on Monday arrested a person on charges of hacking the emails of Golkonda Resorts and Spa (GRS), Gandipet.

According to the police, the suspect, Mohammed Althaf, a native of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, had left the firm without giving prior notice and joined another prominet resort in Shamirpet as assistant sales manager. During his stint at the Gandipet resort, Althaf had access to confidential information like business data and internal reviews of the firm.

The issue of hacking of the resort’s emails came to light when the resort manager found that the firm’s internal issues were being leaked to outsiders. This, he said in a complaint to the police, had caused irreparable business losses and bad reputation to the resort, while several of its business clients too were diverted by Althaf to the resort where he joined later.

According to Inspector, Cyber Cell, S Harinath, Althaf left the Gandipet resort in May and joined the Shamirpet resort at a higher salary. He had purchased a new mobile in June and was accessing his former employer’s mails on the phone.

The suspect was produced before the XVI Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Miyapur and was remanded in judicial custody.
