Hyderabad cops solve Akshara’s murder case

Hyderabad: The mystery surrounding the suspicious death of a 14-month-old baby girl near Jalvihar Water Park on Necklace Road on Thursday afternoon was solved on Friday with the arrest of an 11-year-old girl, who allegedly killed the child by throwing her into the sump.

The girl bore a grudge against the child P Akshara for biting her on hand while playing. Unable to cope up with the pain, the girl took Akshara to the sump and threw her into it, said Ramgopalpet Inspector P Murali Krishna.

Eight children were playing in an open place in front of their huts and the 11-year-old girl was elder among them. While playing, Akshara bit the girl who later took her to the sump. In fact, the girl herself told Akshara’s father Appala Naidu that an unidentified person had taken his daughter while playing with the children.

Based on the girl’s version, Naidu lodged a complaint with the police who examined the footage collected from surveillance cameras installed at the Jalvihar and found that the arrested girl and Akshara were seen going towards the parking place abutting the water park.

The police were on toes after rumours spread like wild fire that the child was kidnapped and after examining the CCTVs footage, they questioned the girl who admitted to the crime. “With great difficulty, we extracted the circumstances that led to the child’s death from her,” Krishna said.

Hailing from Vizianagaram district, the girl and Akshara’s families, which are staying in huts abutting the water park, were also at loggerheads for the last few months. The parents of the two children were working as housekeeping staff at the water park.

Krishna said the girl was produced before Juvenile Court which remanded her to 14-days judicial custody. Presently, the girl was lodged at Observatory Home, Malakpet.
