Green crusader Vanajeevi Ramaiah pushes for medicinal plants

Kothagudem: Green crusader Vanajeevi Ramaiah stressed the need to plant rare and medicinal plants at parks developed by government to educate future generations about the value of trees.

He called on District Collector Rajat Kumar Saini at Kothagudem on Friday and submitted a memorandum with regard to his proposal. He also presented a jar full of seeds to the Collector.

Interacting with the Collector, the green crusader noted that Central Park developed at Yellendu Cross Roads in the town has to be developed as herbal garden. He said there were plants in the park but it lacks rare and medicinal plants.

He wanted the district administration to plant species of rare and medicinal plant varieties in the park and they should be accompanied by plant’s significance, scientific name and its uses.

Thus visitors, especially youth coming to the park will learn about rare herbal plants which could be a value addition to the park and serve to create awareness among the visitors, Ramaiah explained.

Collector Saini responded positively to the suggestion made by Ramaiah and promised to take required steps in association with the Forest Department. Ramaiah later planted saplings at Triveni School marking International Yoga Day.
