Govt initiatives reviving caste-based professions in rural areas: Bhongir MLA

Yadadri-Bhongir: Bhongir MLA Pylla Shaker Reddy on Wednesday said that Integrated Fisheries Development Scheme taken up by the State government has changed the lives of fishermen in the State by improving their incomes.

Releasing fishlings into Pedda Cheruvu of Bibinagar in the district, Shaker Reddy said the restoration of village tanks under Mission Kakatiya and releasing fishlings in the water bodies by the Fisheries department had not only created livelihood to lakhs of fishermen but brought about change in their liifestyle. He also pointed out that the State government had eliminated middlemen and contract system in growing fish in reservoirs and village tanks, with Fishermen’s Cooperative Societies getting complete rights over reservoirs and village tanks for growing of fishes and selling their catch.

He said the Fisheries department was also providing mopeds, fishing nets and mini-trucks for the fishermen on subsidised rates. The initiatives taken up by the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao were gradually reviving caste-based professions in villages, which will make gram panchayats economically self-sufficient, he said.

District Fisheries Officer Shakeela Bhanu and members of Fishermen Cooperative Societies  were also present.
