Nalgonda: The initiatives, ‘My Nation Petrol Bunk’ and ‘My Nation Stall’, run by the district jail, were receiving good response from the people as a profit of Rs 17,48,945 was earned only in nine months.

The Jails Department set up ‘My Nation Petrol Bunk’ on the premises of the district jail in May 2016, which was maintained by the district jail authorities. About 11 convicted prisoners and five prisoners who were released were working in the petrol bunk on the salary fixed by the Jails Department.

There was also an overwhelming response from people to My Nation Petrol Bunk, surprising even jail officials. In eight months, ie from May to December 15, it did business of Rs. 6,97,41,206 by selling 740 kilolitres of petrol and 740 kilolitres of diesel. Initially, just Rs 48 kilolitres of petrol was sold per month, but now it has reached more than 110 kilolitres. In the sale of diesel, same thing has happened. A deputy jailor level officer was deputed to supervise My Nation Petrol Bunk.

My Nation Stall, which was set up at the jail petrol bunk to sell the products made by prisoners, was also generating revenue for the jail. Carpets, handicrafts, detergent soaps and other articles, which were made by Warangal Central Jail, Chanchalgua Jail and other jail inmates would be sold at My Nation Stall.

In the nine months from April to December 15, 2016, My Nation Stall has done business of Rs. 5,02,905. “Both the Petrol Bunk and My Nation Stall have done business of Rs. 7,02,44,111 resulting in Rs 17,48,945 profit to the district jail, we are expecting that sale of fuel at the petrol bunk would further increase in coming days,” he maintained.
