Hyderabad: MLC K Kavitha on Friday categorically stated that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and TRS’ fight against the Centre was above politics, and was against its anti-people, anti-labour and disinvestment policies. She asserted that the TRS had extended issue-based support to the Union government in the past with no political motive or agenda attached to them.

“When the TRS MPs extended their support to certain policies including GST and other Bills in Parliament, they were supporting the Government of India on behalf of the State on those issues. The TRS MPs never supported the divisive ideology of BJP and opposed several Bills in Parliament,” she said. She observed that the Centre was not reciprocating in the same manner and it was up to them to decide whether they should support a young State or neglect it for political reasons. “People are watching everything and they will respond in a befitting manner,” she said.

In an informal interaction with mediapersons here, the newly elected MLC said Chandrashekhar Rao’s decision to convene a meeting of non-BJP parties in Hyderabad during the second week of December was drawing good traction from across the country. She said the main focus of the TRS would be on the anti-farmer and anti-labour policies of the BJP government towards which, work was already underway to unite all like-minded political parties.

When asked if Congress leaders too would be invited to the conclave, Kavitha said the TRS President will take a call on the issue and added that the heads of various political parties were constantly in contact with him in this regard. “The anti-farmer, anti-labour and disinvestment policies of the Centre will be the rallying point at the conclave,” she said.

Kavitha, objecting to disinvestment in profit-making Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), said the BJP was trying to sell heritage properties to run the show. “The recent Farm laws are very regressive, and that prompted the Chief Minister, who is a farmer himself, to take up the fight against the Centre,” Kavitha said, adding: “The BJP’s mask has come off after it brought out the regressive farm laws.”

The MLC said the BJP was resorting to outright lies and fake news to manipulate social media to turn the tide in its favour in the polls. “But TRS too is well-prepared to counter the BJP and hit them below the belt, if needed,” she said. She stated that while BJP was constantly on election mode, TRS was on development mode.

Congress, she said, had failed as an alternative to the BJP in the country and was no more a national party. “It has now become the Indian Notional Congress. It failed the nation and also its own cadre,” she said, adding that the party was dying a natural death.

Kavitha strongly objected to the tweets by AICC in-charge Manickam Tagore terming Chandrashekhar Rao as a Modi supporter. She advised him to use his words carefully against the TRS and its President. She pointed out that the TRS MPs opposed the Farm Bills in Lok Sabha, forcing the Congress MPs too to support them. “The Congress party does not own sole rights to fight on national issues. Every political party, organisation and even an individual can fight on issues of national interest,” she asserted.

Stating that TRS will win the GHMC elections comfortably as the party’s strength had increased mani-fold over the last six years, she said the TRS government’s welfare and development measures will outweigh the anti-incumbency factor being publicised by the Opposition.

In the wake of TRS Rajya Sabha member D Srinivas challenging TRS to take action against him, Kavitha said that taking no action was also an action. “There is no need to talk about a disgruntled leader,” she added.
