DPS Nacharam: Talent to the fore at English Week


Delhi Public School, Nacharam celebrated English Week through a special assembly. The event was organized on a virtual zoom platform by the middle school segment (Classes 7 and 8).

Principal Sunitha Rao, senior Vice Principal Nanditha Sunkara, Sraboni Dash, Sunitha Makam from the English department and Vice-Principal Gowri Venkatesh were present on the occasion. An array of events was conducted to enhance the vocabulary, language skills and make learning enjoyable. The theme of the event was “English Lingua – Deep into the world of English Literature.”

The event started with the lighting of the lamp and a prayer song to invoke the blessings of the almighty. Various activities like speeches on the importance, brief history and characteristics of the English language were v delivered by the students. Through the programme ‘Literary Magic’ students brought out the noteworthy dialogues of prominent characters such as Portia, Hermione Granger, Percy Jackson et al.

Senior Vice-principal Nanditha Sunkara was overwhelmed by the speeches and the programmes. She appreciated the confidence of the students and the virtual backgrounds that they had set up in sync with their presentations.

Literary genres were well explained by the students. English department HOD Sraboni Dash applauded students for their exquisite work. Through the programme ‘Meet your favourite authors’ students dressed up as authors spoke of their works and their contribution to the language. Among noted authors whose works were discussed were Mark Twain, Sarojini Naidu, Rabindranath Tagore.

A melodious ‘Speechless’ song by a student of grade VIII left the audience speechless. With the activity “Are you sure it is correct?’’ students brought out the commonly mispronounced words and also gave a few tips to speak right. Dramatic monologues were performed on significant characters of English Literature like Julia, Shylock et al. Vice-Principal Gowri Venkatesh extolled the participants and gave various tips to improve their English and elucidated the importance of reading. She encouraged students to take up reading as one of their hobbies as it would improve their communication skills.

The principal addressed the virtual gathering and appreciated the hard work put in by the students and teachers.
