Hyderabad: The Centre has nominated the chairman of Transco and Genco Devulapalli Prabhakar Rao as the chairman of the Southern Regional Power Committee (SRPC). Orders to this effect were issued by the Central Electricity Authority, according to an official press release here on Wednesday.
The Southern Regional Power Committee comprises of representatives of Andhra Pradesh, Karnakata, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry in addition to Telangana and Kerala Transco CMD was heading the committee earlier. The committee oversees the power distribution, power grid operation, power utility, payment of inter-state power bills and acts as a liason between the southern states and the centre. It would also monitor and solve the disputes among the member States. The committee is headquartered in Bengaluru and Power grid Corporation authorities would also be the members of the committee.
Following the nomination, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao congratulated Prabhakar Rao and described the nomination as the recognition of the untiring efforts of the latter in providing uninterrupted power supply in the newly formed State of Telangana. He hoped that the Southern States would also emulate the example of Telangana power sector success under the leadership of Prabhakar Rao.
CM expresses happiness over clearance to Yadadri plant
The Chief Minister expressed his happiness over the Environmental clearances granted to the Yadadri Super Critical Thermal plant and said works should commence immediately. the 4000 MW station being set up at a cost of Rs 27,000 crore would help Telangana become a power surplus state The Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) was providing Rs 21,000 crore financial assistance to the Telangana Genco.
