CPI (M) objects to police high-handedness

Nalgonda: The CPI(M) district secretary Mudhireddy Sudhakar Reddy on Thursday termed handcuffing farmers while presenting them at court in Khammam a ‘heinous act.’

Reddy, in a press note, strongly condemned the act of Khammam police. While the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has promised to make real the saying ‘farmer is king’, it was unfortunate that such insult was meted to the farmers.

He charged the State government of inaction against the syndicate who purchased chilli and there by reducing market price of chilli. Then the police filed cases against farmers who staged demonstration, he added.

He urged the government to take action against police officials, who were responsible for the action. Instead of controlling the traders who were deliberately bringing down the price of the crops in the market, the government was trying to muzzle the voices of the farmers, he added.
