CM KCR condoles death of renowned Kuchipudi dancer Sobha Naidu


Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has mourned the death of well-known Kuchipudi dancer, teacher and Padma Shri awardee Sobha Naidu. The Chief Minister recalled that Sobha Naidu was an outstanding exponent of the Kuchipudi dance form and was especially known for depicting the roles of Satyabhama and Padmavathy. The Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to members of the bereaved family.

Sobha Naidu, died during the early hours of Wednesday at a private hospital here where she was undergoing treatment for the past few days.

Born in 1956 at Anakapalli in Andhra Pradesh, she received her training in Kuchipudi dance from Vempati Chinna Satyam. She received Padma Shri in 2001. In 1991, she received the Sangeet Natak Akademi award and she was also awarded with the title of ‘Nritya Choodamani’ by the Sri Krishna Gana Sabha of Madras. She was the Principal for Kuchipudi Art Academy, Hyderabad and trained hundreds of students from India and abroad.
