The importance of keeping fit was never as crucial as in the current scenario. In keeping with this, DPS has come up with the initiative of Fit DPS Fit India, an online mass yoga demonstration on June 20, 2020 on the occasion of the 6th International Yoga Day.
The programme began with the auspicious lighting of the lamp and prayer. Chairman Malka Komaraiah underlined the importance of Yoga and urged the students to keep fit. Principal Jyothi Turaga led the celebrations by welcoming the guests and setting the stage for the event. She spoke about the initiative and its significance.
This year due to the pandemic and the restrictions on large public gatherings and the social distancing measures in place, the decision to take the celebrations to every home though the digital platform has been lauded by the yoga enthusiasts. In sync with the theme for International Yoga Day 2020-Yoga for Health – Yoga at Home, Delhi Public School, Nadergul provided an innovative platform with exciting activities like ‘My Life My Yoga’ a unique international photo/video blog competition, ‘spiritually connected family’, a task that stimulated the students and the parents to spend a quality time together performing yoga and designing a blissful corner at home that adds little yoga to the routine.
There was an overwhelming response to all the activities not only from the children but also of parents. The online mass yoga demonstration was led by Vidya, Yoga expert, Heartfulness Centre. Some 75,000 students, staff and family members of DPS Nacharam, Mahendra Hills and Nagergul participated live on Facebook and 1,000 participants on Zoom platform.
