Car plunges into canal in Karimnagar as driver talks over mobile while driving

Car which plunged in to Kakatiya Canal being fished out

Karimnagar: A man and his wife travelling in a car drowned after the car fell into Kakatiya canal in the outskirts of Karimnagar town on Saturday evening, Police said. The mishap occurred as the man was trying to back up the car, while talking on a mobile phone.

The man Macharla Srinivas and his wife Swaroopa, of Sultanabad of Peddapalli district had gone near the Kakatiya canal to buy fresh fish and after the purchase Srinivas was trying to reverse the car while talking on the phone and the car slid into the canal.

The couple had come to Karimangar on some personal work after completing their work, they were to return to Sultanabad, but they decided to drive up to Kakatiya canal on the town outskirts to buy fish. Srinivas runs a garments shop in Sultanabad. Coming to know about the incident, police rushed the spot and fished out the vehicle with the help of cranes. However, the couple was found dead.

Karimnagar rural ACP Vijayasaradhi, Thimmapur CI Mahesh Goud and other police personnel visited the spot. Bodies have been shifted to district headquarters government hospital for postmortem.
