Hyderabad: Two persons, who allegedly duped businessmen of their goods by diverting their attention, were arrested by the Tukaram Gate police here on Saturday.
The police recovered nine cartons of deodorant, three cartons of hair dye, and chocolates, all worth Rs 4.5 lakh apart from Rs 1.10 lakh in cash from them.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) B Sumathi, the duo T Sai Nanda Kishore and Mohammed Abdul Raheem, both residents of Old Malakpet, duped around seven businessmen over the last few months.
Sumathi said the two would move in various localities and search for houses that are to be given on rent. They would befriend the watchman of the apartment and collect the contact number of the flat owner.
A few days later, they would meet the watchman and say that they had taken the property on rent. At the same time, they would contact some wholesaler and place orders for some fast moving consumer goods.
They ask them to send it to a particular apartment. When the goods are delivered, the duo would call the delivery man to a different place on the pretext of handing the cash. As soon as the delivery man moves away from the apartment, they would rush to spot and decamp with the goods on their vehicle,” she said.
They would later sell the goods to traders at a cheaper price. Seven cases were registered against the gang in Marredpally, Chilkalguda, Tukaram Gate, Ramgopalpet, Begumpet, Osmania University and LB Nagar police stations.
The gang was earlier arrested on similar charges, with eight non-bailable warrants pending against them. The two were produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
