Mancherial: Bellampalli MLA Durgam Chinnaiah gave a new lease of life to three tribal kids, who lost their parents recently, by adopting them, at Gatraopalli village in Kasipet mandal on Wednesday. He declared that he would sponsor their education, shelter and bear expenses of performing their wedding. He won laurels for coming to the rescue of the children.
Chinnaiah came forward to extend all support to the children after learning about their plight from Kasipet mandal president BV Ramana Reddy. He visited and comforted Arka Nagubai, a class X student, her sister Laxmi (13) and her brother Hanmanth Rao (12) at their residence. He was moved by the pitiable condition of the children.
The legislator was appreciated by social media users for adopting the tribal children and for promising to take care of them. His gesture went viral on WhatsApp groups and Facebook. Laxmi and Hanmath thanked him for extending a helping hand when they were facing a tough situation after becoming orphans.
The childrens’ mother Ambika and another sibling succumbed to some ailment three weeks ago. The father, Bheem Rao, died 12 years ago. Nagubai is studying in school run by the Tribal Welfare department. Laxmi stopped studies because of financial problems, while Hanmanth is a student of Class VII. They live in a hut and are struggling to make both ends meet.
Meanwhile, the Child Welfare department is learned to have requested the District Collector to extend financial aid of Rs 2,000 per month to the girls till they turn majors.
