Hyderabad: The Cabinet subcommittee on digital payments headed by Minister for IT and Industries, KT Rama Rao which met in secretariat on Tuesday, wanted bankers to step up the provision of the point of sale ( POS) machines to meet the increasing shift to cashless transactions.
The committee reviewed the scope for replicating in other places the Siddipet model where the government had initiated a slew of measures to achieve a major shift to online payments in view of the cash crunch being faced by the country.
It discussed the bankers’ cooperation as well as the awareness levels among the people about digital payments. The committee members had discussions with representatives of e-wallet companies on the safety and security transactions through them.
The Minister said that the digital payments alone would not help in achieving the desired shift to digital transactions. The government was ready to work with various agencies to ensure success of the initiative. He said the State government would unveil its T-wallet soon to give a push to cashless transactions.
Deputy Chief Minister Md Mahmood Ali, Ministers, Etela Rajender, Jupalli Krishna Rao, Mahender Reddy and Jagadish Reddy were among those who took part.
