Kothagudem: A clash between the employees of Union Bank of India Yellandu branch (formerly a branch of Andhra Bank) and a bank customer took place at Yellandu in Bhadradri Kothagudem on Tuesday.
According to sources, Ashok, a tribal farmer from Amarsingh thanda in Yellandu mandal, took a gold loan of Rs 70,000 seven months back from the bank. He repaid the loan amount on Tuesday along with interest and requested the bank officials to release the gold.
But the bank officials refused to release the pledged gold stating that he has a crop loan of Rs 1.42 lakh overdue for three years and it has to be cleared before they can release the gold. Then the customer entered into an argument with bank officials questioning why they would not release the gold.
It led to fisticuffs between the employees and the customer, who suffered a bleeding injury on his face. The bank officials blamed Ashok of starting the trouble by pushing a bank employee with his hands.
Ashok, speaking to the media, alleged that a field officer of the bank had hurled invective at him taking the name of his caste. He lodged a complaint with local police against the bank officials.
