Hyderabad: Registering his strong objection to the Central government’s nod to hire 12 rock bands to promote nationalism in IITs and other higher education institutions, All India Majlis-e-ittehad ul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday questioned to Modi-led BJP government as to how they hope to instil patriotism through a rock band.
Reacting on the issue, MIM leader said the country does not have any specific law to make it mandatory for its citizen to sing a patriotic song. After apex court’s Constitution Bench verdict on the Right to Privacy, things could not be forced upon people and it is for them to decide what they want or what they don’t, he added.
Asaduddin Owaisi asked if the government has a clear definition of “patriotic rock band’ and added, “What is patriotic about them? Would this government allow head-banging in IITs?”
MIM leader also sought to know why the government was not filling up the vacant vacancies in the IITs and why the research grants were cut down. Moreover, the government had failed to provide jobs to youth which is its primary duty, he said. Owaisi said the government must allow education institutions and universities to work independently and there should be no interference in the matters of education institution.
