Hyderabad: The water fountains and the children play equipment at the sprawling AS Rao Nagar Park, which for long lay gathering dust, have now sprung back to life.
After working for over a month, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has repaired and restored the defunct water fountains and also put in place fully functional children play equipment in the park.
Spread over two acres, the park used to attract many residents from not only AS Rao Nagar but also from neighbouring areas for morning and evening walks. With its greenery, water fountains, children play equipment, the park used to be abuzz with visitors.
But for the last few years, the conditions here deteriorated with fountains and children play equipment getting damaged and turning defunct. The water pumps, pipes and valves were rotten and children play equipment, which were installed a decade ago, almost turned into scrap.
Residents made several appeals to the GHMC officials to take up repair works and all their efforts paid off finally last month, when the corporation sanctioned funds needed for executing repair works and restoring the facilities.
“It was a long-pending issue. Over Rs 7 lakh, including Rs 4 lakh for fountains and Rs 3 lakh for children play equipment, were spent for repair works. It took nearly a month to complete the works,” said GHMC Deputy Executive Engineer, KP Bala Krishna.
On Friday, Zonal Commissioner Srinivas Reddy and a few senior officials inspected the park and the equipment. With colourful lights, the water fountains are now cynosure of the park and have started to drawing visitors in the evenings.
